Skin Care Advice
Tip of the Week: Proper skin care is very important! in achieving a beautiful makeup look. Start by cleansing, toning, and moisturizing your skin. This allows a nice palette with which you can then apply makeup. You´ll feel better about yourself too. It´s all about personal hygiene. Make sure to use products that are alcohol free!
Alpha hydroxy acids are naturally occurring, non-toxic substances that enable older or damaged skin to rejuvenate and resemble younger looking skin. Lucky for us, they’re found in edible fruits and vegetables, but if you’ve been around a while and especially if you’ve been a sunworshiper, you might benefit from an AHA product applied regularly. A good AHA product rejuvenates and helps form new skin. AHAs work well combined with Retin-A to prevent precancerous skin lesions. This combination will also reverse brown sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles — common changes associated with aging. The most common alpha hydroxy acid used for treatment of serious skin problems such as acne are lactic acid and glycolic acid. AHAs, alone or with other substances, can stimulate the natural process of exuviation–a fancy word that means older (or damaged) skin rejuvenates and becomes younger and healthier-looking.

1. A moisturizer is a daytime product. It usually has a sunscreen and serves as surface protection for your skin from pollution. It also gives a nice slip so you can easily apply foundation. A night time product is meant to nourish the skin and penetrate. Your skin cells rejuvenate at night and so moisture must be replaced while you are sleeping. So catch a few winks and dream about how beautiful your skin will look in the morning because you used a night cream.

3. Most women would like to know their skin type. Is it determined by heredity or life style? I would say both. Since your genes determine your hair color and eye color, so too your skin type. Hormones play a big part in the equation. Adolescents know too well that acne and puberty go hand in hand. A maturing person will generally have a drier skin due to the slowing down of the production of oils by the sebaceous glands. As for your lifestyle affecting your skin, there is a correlation between diet, sleep, alcohol, exercise and how your skin looks and feels. Be sure to drink plenty of water to flush impurities out of your skin and body.

4. Cleansing the skin is on the top of my list for proper skin care. If you don´t keep the skin clear of make-up and debris (pollution) you can´t have a smooth looking complexion. Be sure to wash with a mild cleanser in the morning and in the evening. Before bedtime it is important to remove makeup from the day. In the morning you have residue from night cream or just oil and perspiration. Always follow with toner recommended for your skin type.

5. If you want to make a herbal facial steam, find sweet smelling flowers and put them into an open bag to dry for 3 days. Then let them dry in the sun for 2-3 hours. Finally arange them in a(plastic-ziplock) bag and put them in the middle of a heavy book, pressing down. Add more heavy books, and after a week, pull the petals off the flowers and put them in a pan and add water. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to low. Put your head over the pot and drape a towel over you, enclosing the pan. Follow with a splash of cool water. This will also give you a rosy glow! Or take a warm bath and add Colosé Massage Oil with Aromatic Herbs, much easier and quicker!.

6. Most women are unsure what type of skin they are. How can you tell? First, ask yourself if you have any oiliness, dryness, or signs of aging. If you are oily all over, you are an oily skin. If you are oily in the T zone and dry on the cheeks, you are probably a combination skin. If you are moderately to extremely dry on the cheeks you are a dry skin. If you have signs of aging, more than likely you have a dry skin.

7. Melanoma (skin cancer) can be detected in its early stages and treated. Those with fair skin and blue eyes, those who had a blistering sunburn in their youth, and those who are genetically predisposed, may develop melanoma sometime in their lifetime. You and your doctor should examine your skin for any new moles or changes to existing ones. The dermatologist may decide to biopsy the area in question to determine if it is cancerous or not. If it is cancerous, a surgeon will remove the mole and surrounding tissue. Follow up treatment may be an option, depending on the prognosis. Melanoma is treatable and you too can be a survivor. 8. The lightest concentration of fragrance is cologne. This should be applied liberally in a spray or splash form. An eau de toilette is stronger and can be applied lightly or liberally. The most concentrated form of a fragrance is perfume (parfum), which contains the most essential oils and so is the longest lasting form of the fragrance. Dab perfume onto pulse points (wrist, behind ears, in cleavage, behind the knees). Cologne or eau de toilette can be used along with a dab of perfume.

9. Daily beauty care is not sufficient to cleanse the epidermis from impurities that produce a dull complexion. The skin has to be cleansed deeply once or twice a week in order for it to be totally clear and smooth. Using a facial mask will give you a beautiful glow to your complexion.

10. The prime cause of pimples and blackheads is usually not the make-up but the cleansing routine. You must be very thorough when removing make-up at the end of the day. Never be tempted to go to sleep without cleansing your face. You might also like to add a cleansing lotion and toner to your nightly routine. Do not use soap. Deep cleansing your face will prevent your pores from becoming clogged which enable bacteria to grow..

11. You must treat the skin on your neck as gently as the skin on your face. Otherwise, your neck will appear dry and wrinkled, compared to the smooth, treated skin on your face. Remember to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your neck just as often as you do the rest of your face with alcohol free products.
